Deep retrofitting europe

The offsite solution to the energy and housing crisis

Did you know about 25% of all energy we use in Europe goes to our buildings? Even over 50% in winter! When you know this, and you know that many of our current living facilities are not up to standard as far as energy waste goes, you also know there is a lot of potential to do better.

“Tens of millions of houses in Europe need urgent renovation to mitigate significant loss of energy.”

About 43 million houses in Europe need to be renovated and made energy neutral to reach our climate goals of 2050. At a rate of about 6000 renovations per day. A mindboggling number. The energy crisis of 2022 has only made that need more compelling. But it is possible, with deep energetic renovation through offsite construction.

The good news? When equipped with offsite-produced façade and roof panels, retrofit can deliver net-zero energy transformations in under a week, offering a powerful tool to tackle this crisis at speed and scale.

Why deep retrofitting is the fastest way to sustainable energetic renovation?

At Retrofitt, pioneering the Energiesprong methodology, we revolutionise renovation by:

  • Factory-producing complete ’climate jackets’ – comprising airtight membranes, insulation, cladding, windows, roofs, plus engineering and installation guidance.
  • Achieving net-zero energy performance, delivering efficient heating, hot water, electricity, and vastly improved comfort.
  • Minimising carbon emissions throughout the manufacturing and installation cycle.

This offsite-first approach cuts on-site time by up to 50 %, reduces manual labor, and minimzes site disruption dramatically.

6 benefits of offsite deep retrofitting

  • 1

Saving on heating cost: retrofitting literally wraps a house in a new, energy neutral coat. Helping to cut energy costs and bill prices.

  • 2

Durability: the new tech and sustainable materials increase the lifetime of the building with many years, while decreasing required replacement cycles and maintenance.

  • 3

Improved comfort and appearance: the whole house gets retrofitted completely, addressing all air leaks an defective insulation. Also your home will look more appealing, increasing its value.

  • 4

Better for the planet: the house will become energy neutral, which reduces carbon footprint significantly

  • 5

Less time on site: for every hour on site for offsite retrofitting, traditional retrofitting takes 27 hours.

  • 6

Less labour cost: compared to traditional retrofitting, offsite needs less manpower on site.

Our three Retrofitting projects – how we contribute to a greener Europe?

  • 1
    Wattrelos, France – 160 homes deep-Retrofitted
    • Scope: 1960s social housing – 13 000 m² across 160 homes.
    • Approach: Offsite façades + roofs trapping energy and adding PV.
    • Impact: Homes rated A energy label (E=0), 60 % heat loss reduction, improved comfort, lower bills – all without rent hikes.

  • 3
Lille, France – School complex retrofitting
    • Scope: 2 000 m² of façades & roofs across five schools, gym, canteens over 2023–2025.
    • Implementation: Prefab panels installed in two summer phases to avoid disrupting students.
    • Benefits: 40–50 % time saved vs traditional retrofits; heritage-preserving façades; bio-based materials; climate-neutral outcome

How can Retrofitt make net-zero buildings a reality?

Retrofitting through the offsite construction method delivers:

  • Rapid renovations in days, not years
  • True net-zero energy performance with carbon savings
  • Improved living standards, from schools to large social housing
  • Circular design with recyclable, bio-based materials

To reach Europe’s 2050 climate targets, we need to:

  • Scale up factory-driven retrofit at pace
  • Invest in innovation, workforce training, and finance
  • Collaborate across governments, housing clans, construction firms

At Retrofitt, our mission is clear: transform Europe’s building stock at speed and scale through the power of offsite retrofit.
