Towards Zero Energy Consumption
Since 2023, Retrofitt has been renovating several schools in the Lille region each summer to improve their energy performance.
This ambitious project will be completed in the summer of 2025, after three years of work, during which six schools will have been fully renovated. The goal: to achieve energy consumption of E=0, in line with the requirements of the EnergieSprong program.

An Innovative Off-site Approach for Fast and Efficient Renovation
The renovation of these school buildings is based on the European EnergieSprong concept, which emphasizes off-site construction, energy-efficient renovation, and on-site energy production.
The process includes factory production of insulated façades and roofs, which are then installed on-site during the summer holidays to avoid disrupting the school calendar. This system not only ensures maximum efficiency but also meets strict deadlines, minimizing disturbances for students and teachers.
With a total of 9,000 m² of façades and roofs renovated, the project spans three years (2023–2025), with two schools renovated each summer. Off-site construction guarantees optimized project management, allowing for rapid installation of prefabricated materials while reducing noise pollution and interruptions to teaching activities.
Long-term School Renovation: Performance and Sustainability
Once the work is completed, BuildUp, through its Retrofitt division, will manage the operation and maintenance of the buildings for 22 years, ensuring their long-term energy performance.
In addition, educational programs will be offered to students and teachers to raise awareness and provide training on optimizing the energy performance of their schools. This approach aims to strengthen the sustainability of the renovation and encourage eco-friendly practices within the schools.

Effective collaboration for a successful schools renovation
Retrofitt collaborated with several partners to successfully complete this ambitious project, including ENERGELIO, EQUANS, Dujardin Vincent, SAS MANING, Energiesprong FR, Face b, and BuildUp.
This cooperation enabled the implementation of innovative and sustainable solutions, using circular and bio-based materials to reduce the carbon footprint of the renovation.
Thanks to this approach, the renovated schools will not only enjoy improved thermal comfort but will also produce as much energy as they consume, thus contributing to the energy transition and the fight against climate change.
